Brenda
In this video, we’ll see how to plan and modify a route in MAPEAK.
Brenda
We’re in the Mount Hood area. Our goal is to plan a hiking route from this parking area to several campsites and points of interest.
Brenda
First, select the pencil icon to open the route-planning tools.
Brenda
Next, choose the routing profile that matches your activity. MAPEAK supports hiking, cycling, off-road driving, and straight-line navigation.
Brenda
Straight-line mode is useful when crossing an area without mapped roads or trails.
Brenda
For this example, we’ll select the hiking profile.
Brenda
Next, click the first campsite you want to reach.
Brenda
MAPEAK automatically calculates a complete route using the available hiking trails.
Brenda
If the suggested route is not exactly what you want, you can easily modify it.
Brenda
Click and drag any point along the route toward a different trail. MAPEAK recalculates the route immediately.
Brenda
Here, we’re changing the route to avoid a steeper section and follow an alternative path.
Brenda
You can also extend your trip by adding more destinations.
Brenda
In this example, we’ll continue to the Paradise Branch Falls lookout.
Brenda
We’ll then extend the route again by adding another campsite.
Brenda
Each additional click extends the route and automatically updates all the calculations.
Brenda
The route summary displays the total distance, accumulated elevation gain, and accumulated descent.
Brenda
In this example, the completed route is approximately nine and a quarter miles.

For a more detailed view, open the elevation panel.
Brenda
The blue line shows the elevation profile across the entire route.
Brenda
You can also display the slope profile. The black line shows how the gradient changes along the route.
Brenda
On the map, the route is color-coded according to slope. Green indicates flatter sections, while yellow, orange, and red indicate increasingly steep terrain.
Brenda
These tools make it easy to compare alternatives and understand the route before heading out.

With MAPEAK, you can plan, adjust, and evaluate your route in just a few simple steps.
